In the beginning... (Weeks 1-3)

Test shot: My first Holga outing.

So Ive been given full complete freedom with my main project this year. Scary, but true. But just as star gazing can make you feel inconsequential and microscopic, a completely open brief makes me feel like I've never taken a photo before. I imagine this is what a lottery winner would feel after the initial parties and champagne. Now what do I do?
There is nothing more daunting than an empty, white, pristine page.
I broke this project down into what I need to achieve, what I would like to achieve and what will hold my interests for at least between now and the end of term.
So here goes;
I've decided to try and document the public's relation to shared urban spaces. I suppose you could call it a combination of socio-documentary with urban architectural photography. Although, at this stage it is yet to be formed into anything of substance.
The spaces involved will be public parks, car parks, shopping areas, streets although I'm not ruling anything out.
As for initial research I've been looking at; Eugene Atget, Mark Power, Peter Friedl's Playground series, Andreas Gursky, Bernd & Hilla Becher and a few others.
